On Sunday 31st January Shane Bosworth and Ali Pettitt competed in the 1st WTKA English Open Championships. This was the first Amateur fight for both guys with Shane taking Gold in the  U61Kg division and Ali came 4th out of 8 in the U93Kg division.

An excellent display from both guys especially with only 4 months training!

The Devils Pit is home to the new International Kickboxing Federation, Super Lightweight Midlands Champion. Dave Stewart  secured the title defeating defending champion Shaun Hurdman by unanimous decision at Swadlincote’s Grove Hall.

Hurdman who fights out of Crown Kickboxing struggled to keep us with Stewart’s early pace to which he continued throughout the 5 rounds. Hurdman was stopped twice with an eight count by the referee, but managed to see the fight through to the judge’s decision to which Stewart won unanimously.

This is the second belt now added to the Devil’s pit MMA stable alongside Johnny Gillan who holds the ISKA cruiserweight midlands championship title. Gillan himself has had mixed fortunes recently. On the 21st November he lost in the cage at Nottingham’s elite professional mixed martial arts event, “Clash of Warriors”. Gillan was rear naked chocked by Hyde MMA’s Lee Johnston after 1 minute and 22 seconds of the first round. Gillan was back in action on Sunday 30th November at Derby’s ICF event, where he finished Lee Davies from Jon Jeppsons Black Belt Academy by KO in after 1 minute and 40 seconds including two standing eight counts.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Devils Pits Dave Stewart, is challenging for the Super Lightweight Midlands IKF Kickboxing belt when he comes up against Shaun Hurdman at Green Bank Leisure Centre on Saturday 28th November.

*Dave Stewart recorded the Devils Pit first MMA win at Derby's Urban Nights MMA Event on Saturday 17th October 2009. Dave defeated Andy Green who fights out of the Salford Fight Factory. The  judges gave Dave the victory after three rounds, but if the rules had aloud for "head" punches Dave would have probably finished the fight earlier.

 

Also in action was Andrew Wilkinson who competed in his first ever mixed martial arts fight. Andrew was defeated in the first round, by a more experienced fighter.

 

The Devil's Pit instructor Johnny Gillan wasn't able to fight as no one would fight him, which was a little frustrating. On behalf of the team, thanks to all the supporters that came to support the guy's.

 

 

* Saturday 17th October sees 3 of the Devil's pit club members in competition.

Instructor Johnny Gillan, Dave Stewart and Andy Wilkinson, will challenge opponents at Derby's Gateway Centre.
